Local influencers: what are they and where to find them?

Nowadays, customers are looking for social proof like never before. Because of this, brands are more and more into influencer marketing as influencer marketing is a way to reach and engage potential new customers. At our agency we recommend brands working with micro influencers a lot, micro influencers are among our favorites because of the results they generate. Another type of influencers we recommend more often are smaller, local influencers. For the same reason we suggest brands to work with micro influencers.

If you have a local business or you work for a local business, we probably don’t have to tell you how important it is to build an online presence at least locally. One way to achieve this is via influencer marketing. You want to be where your potential customers are, and they are on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat etcetera.

What is a local influencer?

As the name suggests, a local influencer is a blogger, Instagrammer, YouTuber, Facebooker etcetera that is based in the same geographical area as your business.

Where to find a local influencer?

  1. Work on your social presence

First of all, make sure your current customers can find you one at least some social media platforms. Depending on your customer base one platform might be better for your brand than another. For example, if your customers are a bit older, make sure you have a Facebook page. If your customers are younger, make sure they can find you on Snapchat or Instagram. Then, if you are present take a look at your followers, you might have some followers who are local or micro-influencers already. Believe us, the best collaborations between brands and influencers arise when the influencer already loves the brand.

  1. Hashtag search

An easy way to search for local influencers is by using local hashtags. By positioning your brand locally with hashtags and geotagging, you instantly downsize your competition – making it way easier to stand out. Now, instead of trying to reach every single person around world, you focus on customers in your country, region, or city.

Hashtags are also a great way to figure out who are already talking about your brand. Again, it might be an influencer.

  1. Hire an influencer marketing agency
